Wrexham's Hollywood Tale Rolls On – One Step from Premier League Glory!
Cue the champagne (and maybe a few tears) at the Racecourse Ground! Wrexham players and fans turned Saturday into a full-blown party after a convincing 3-0 win over Charlton Athletic sealed their promotion to the Championship – just one tier below the Premier League.
With celebrity co-owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney (plus a star-studded cameo from Blake Lively) cheering from the stands, the Welsh club locked in second place in League One, thanks in part to a little help from Leyton Orient, who took down Wycombe 1-0 earlier in the day.
That’s right – Wrexham is now just one promotion away from mixing it up with football royalty like Liverpool, Manchester United, and Arsenal. Not bad for a club that, just four years ago, was floundering in the lower leagues and flying under just about everyone’s radar.
Since Reynolds and McElhenney took over in 2021, the club has had a glow-up of epic proportions. Three promotions, a global fanbase, and a hit docuseries (Welcome to Wrexham) later, they’ve gone from non-league nobodies to a genuine football fairytale – and the story isn’t over yet.
Sure, Birmingham (backed by NFL legend Tom Brady – because apparently this is now a sport for superstar owners only) took the League One title. But Wrexham’s second-place finish still secures their ticket to the big time in the Championship.
Now comes the real challenge: can Wrexham go toe-to-toe with some of the best-funded clubs in the world and make that final leap into the Premier League?
Stay tuned – Hollywood loves a sequel.
