Abuja, Nigeria – Panic gripped residents of Efab Global Estate in the Idu Industrial District of Abuja as heavily armed criminals staged a coordinated overnight assault, injuring at least five security guards and looting several homes.

The terrifying incident, which unfolded in the early hours of Wednesday, saw more than 20 gunmen unleash violence and fear across the usually quiet residential area. Eyewitnesses described hearing sustained gunfire as the assailants breached the estate's perimeter and launched their attack.

A resident, who requested anonymity for safety reasons, recounted the ordeal to WafricNews, revealing how the security personnel on duty were overpowered and brutalised. “They came in large numbers, with sophisticated weapons. Five of our guards were macheted, and they went on to rob six houses,” the resident said.

Victims were reportedly forced at gunpoint to hand over valuables, including cash, jewellery, and mobile phones. In some instances, the intruders allegedly coerced occupants to make instant money transfers to unknown accounts while under duress.

An internal memo from the estate’s security committee, obtained by WafricNews, described the attackers as members of a suspected organised criminal syndicate. “The assault was highly coordinated,” the memo read. “About 40 armed men surrounded the estate and began shooting sporadically to create chaos and fear. Residents were left traumatised.”

The memo also indicated that initial communication with law enforcement was delayed due to the fear and confusion that gripped the estate. “The police were contacted around 4:00 a.m., after the criminals had fled,” it stated.

The incident has once again brought to the fore growing concerns about the state of security in residential areas of the Federal Capital Territory. At the time of filing this report, attempts to reach FCT Police Public Relations Officer, Josephine Adeh, were unsuccessful.

Residents are now calling for immediate intervention and a comprehensive review of security protocols within the estate.

WafricNews will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as they develop.
