Charlotte, NC — Scottie Scheffler has once again proven why he’s the world’s number one golfer. The American secured his third major title with a commanding five-stroke victory at the 2025 PGA Championship, held at the iconic Quail Hollow Club.
Despite early-round jitters, Scheffler kept his composure during Sunday’s final round, finishing the day with an even-par 71 and a tournament total of 11-under. Spain’s Jon Rahm made a fierce charge on the back nine, but Scheffler pulled away with clutch birdies on holes 14 and 15 to seal the win and lift the Wanamaker Trophy once again.
“It was a grind out there,” Scheffler said after his triumph. “I didn’t have my best game, but I stayed patient and trusted my swing. That back nine was all about staying mentally tough.”
Scheffler had started the day three shots ahead of Sweden’s Alex Noren, who faded after a shaky back nine that included three costly bogeys. Meanwhile, Rahm, playing two groups ahead, mounted a surge that briefly saw him tied for the lead after his birdie on the 11th hole.
But Rahm’s hopes unraveled in dramatic fashion. He dropped five shots in his final three holes—including a double-bogey on the par-3 17th, where his tee shot found water—ultimately finishing in a tie for eighth.
Jon Rahm, of Spain, reacts after missing a putt on the 16th hole during the final round of the PGA Championship “A lot of positives, but right now it stings,” Rahm admitted. “That finish was hard to take.”
Americans Harris English, Bryson DeChambeau, and Davis Riley shared second place. English carded a blistering 65, the lowest round of the day, climbing 11 spots up the leaderboard. DeChambeau, who was runner-up at last year’s PGA Championship, again fell just short.
“I played solid, gave myself chances,” said DeChambeau. “Didn’t convert enough putts, but this one’s going to push me harder.”
Scheffler walked away with the winner’s share of a record $19 million purse, earning a $3.42 million payday and further cementing his dominance in the men’s game. His latest victory adds to an already stellar resume and sets the stage for what could be a career-defining season.
