After more than four decades of spinning letters and charming audiences, the curtain has officially closed on Pat Sajak’s legendary run as host of Celebrity Wheel of Fortune.
On what became a nostalgic and heartfelt final episode, the 78-year-old icon took one last spin — not just on the wheel, but through the memories of millions of viewers who grew up watching him turn game show moments into pop culture history.
“This was a good run,” Sajak quipped at the start of Tuesday’s episode. “Thanks to ABC for letting me host season five of Celebrity Wheel of Fortune. I hope they’ll give my pitch for Sajak Senior Secret Agent a shot,” he joked, proving his signature dry wit is still intact.
His partner-in-crime of over 40 years, Vanna White, responded in kind: “Sounds like a winner.”
The episode featured Broadway royalty — Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Renée Elise Goldsberry, and Bernadette Peters — adding sparkle to the farewell. Ferguson eventually walked away with $59,300 for his charity, No Kid Hungry, while Sajak kept the mood light, even tossing Peters’ million-dollar wedge over his shoulder with a laugh after she hit “Bankrupt.”
But behind the banter was a deeper goodbye. As the cast gathered at the end for a final wave, Pat Sajak simply said, “See you next time for more Celebrity Wheel of Fortune.” Only, this time — we won’t.
The veteran host had already spun his last wheel on the main show in June 2024, following a retirement announcement made in 2023 — exactly 40 years after he helped move Wheel of Fortune from daytime TV into the primetime spotlight.
“The time has come,” Sajak said in his retirement message. “It’s been a wonderful ride. Many thanks to you all… If nothing else, it’ll keep the clickbait sites busy!”
True to form, Sajak hasn’t vanished. He’s since reunited with longtime friend and Hawaii news anchor Joe Moore on stage in Prescription: Murder, the theatrical version of the Columbo pilot.
In a touching tribute to Vanna White, Sajak reflected on their decades-long friendship:
“Vanna takes the show seriously — but never herself. I shudder to think what these years might’ve looked like with someone playing the prima donna role. She’s as sweet as she seems.”

From Chicago beginnings to national treasure, Pat Sajak’s final spin is more than just the end of an era — it’s a reminder of how steady, humble greatness can quietly shape generations.
