American Airlines Flight Catches Fire in Denver, Passengers Evacuate Onto Wing
An American Airlines flight caught fire at Denver International Airport on Thursday, prompting an emergency evacuation.
Flight 1006, which had departed from Colorado Springs and was en route to Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport, was diverted to Denver due to an unspecified issue, according to an airline spokesperson.
After landing safely, the aircraft was taxiing to the gate when it experienced an engine-related issue, sparking a fire around 6 p.m. local time.
Emergency Evacuation Amid Visible Smoke
American Airlines confirmed that all 172 passengers and six crew members safely exited the aircraft and were moved to the terminal.
"We thank our crew members, the DEN team, and first responders for their quick and decisive action, ensuring the safety of everyone on board and on the ground," the airline said in a statement.
A Denver airport spokesperson added that the fire broke out at Gate C38, with visible smoke seen by passengers. Some passengers appeared to have evacuated onto the aircraft’s wing as the smoke billowed from the plane.
Fire Extinguished, No Injuries Reported
The fire was quickly extinguished, and no injuries were reported.
Authorities have not yet confirmed the exact cause of the incident. American Airlines has assured that it is working with officials to investigate what led to the fire.
