In a troubling turn of events from Los Angeles, Grammy-nominated singer and actor Halle Bailey has secured a restraining order against her ex-partner, rapper and YouTube personality DDG, amid serious allegations of ongoing abuse and threats to her and their 17-month-old son, Halo.
A judge issued the protective order on Tuesday, mandating that DDG—whose real name is Darryl Dwayne Granberry Jr.—stay away from both Bailey and their child until a court hearing scheduled for June 6. He has also been barred from possessing any firearms.
In court filings, Bailey, 25, detailed a pattern of abuse that she says spanned their relationship and continued after their 2023 breakup. She accused the 27-year-old entertainer of being “physically, verbally, emotionally, and financially abusive,” and said she now lives in fear for her and her son’s safety.
One especially violent encounter described in her statement occurred in January. Bailey said Granberry became aggressive while she was placing their son in a car seat, calling her derogatory names before a fight broke out.
“We fought each other, wrestling and tussling. At one point, Darryl was pulling my hair. He then slammed my face on the steering wheel, causing my tooth to get chipped,” she recalled.
Bailey included photographs of her injuries—bruises and a chipped tooth—as part of her court submission.
The allegations didn’t stop there. In March, Bailey said DDG entered her home without permission while she was out, texting her a photo of her bed along with a threatening message. Days later, she said he grew angry when she refused to let their sick child visit him, smashed a Ring security camera during an argument, and slammed a car door on her while she was holding the baby. Bailey filed a police report after the incident.
She also asked the court to bar Granberry from using his massive online platforms—he has millions of followers across YouTube and Twitch—to smear her or incite harassment from fans.
“Whenever he wishes to cause upset, he starts bad mouthing me to his several millions of fans,” Bailey stated. “He claims I am withholding our son and that I am with other men. As a result, I then receive threats and hate on social media.”
Granberry has not publicly responded to the allegations, and his representatives have yet to issue a comment.
DDG, originally from Pontiac, Michigan, rose to fame through YouTube before launching a rap career. His latest album, Blame the Chat, dropped on May 5 under Epic Records.
Bailey, from Atlanta, is one-half of the acclaimed duo Chloe x Halle, and recently starred as Ariel in Disney’s live-action remake of The Little Mermaid. She has been nominated for five Grammy Awards and is widely celebrated for her work in music and television.
The June 6 court date will determine whether the restraining order will be extended, possibly for up to five years.
