Washington, D.C. — One hundred days into his oversight of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), Elon Musk offered a candid assessment of the agency’s performance, saying that while “some progress” has been made, it has not been “as effective as I’d like.”
Speaking at a press briefing Thursday, Musk pointed to $160 billion in federal spending cuts and the elimination of more than 20,000 government jobs as initial milestones. However, he acknowledged that these measures are a far cry from his ambitious $2 trillion savings target.
“This is just the beginning,” Musk said. “But the system is deeply entrenched, and change moves slower than logic would dictate.”
The DOGE initiative, launched shortly after Musk was tapped as a special advisor for administrative streamlining, has faced mounting challenges—including resistance from federal agencies, opposition from labor unions, and a growing number of legal challenges aimed at blocking further cuts.
Still, Musk signaled he remains committed to the project, hinting at a more aggressive approach in the months ahead. “The bureaucracy is like molasses,” he said. “But even molasses can be moved with enough pressure.”
