In a surprising move just days before the 2025 French Open, tennis legends Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray have ended their coaching partnership after just six months. The duo, both aged 37 and long-time rivals on the court, announced their amicable split on Tuesday.

The partnership raised eyebrows when Djokovic revealed in November that he had enlisted Murray—recently retired and with no prior coaching experience—to join his coaching team. While the collaboration showed early promise, it appears results on the court have not matched expectations.

“Thanks to Novak for the unbelievable opportunity to work together and thanks to his team for all their hard work over the past six months,” Murray said in a statement. “I wish Novak all the best for the rest of the season.”

Djokovic echoed the sentiment, expressing appreciation for their time together. “Thank you, coach Andy, for all the hard work, fun, and support over the last six months, on and off the court,” he said. “I really enjoyed deepening our friendship.”

The decision to part ways follows a challenging period for Djokovic, who has struggled to find form this season, including first-round exits in his last two tournaments. Their time together started brightly, with Djokovic ousting Carlos Alcaraz at the Australian Open before an injury forced him to retire during the semifinal clash against Alexander Zverev.

Novak Djokovic, right, and Andy Murray have decided to end their coaching partnership before the French Open

Murray, a three-time Grand Slam champion and former world No. 1, officially retired from professional tennis following the 2024 Paris Olympics. His brief coaching venture with Djokovic now comes to an end less than two weeks before the clay-court major at Roland Garros, scheduled to begin on May 25.

As Djokovic now prepares to head into the French Open without Murray by his side, all eyes will be on how the Serbian star recalibrates in pursuit of his 25th Grand Slam title.
