Brad Arnold, the iconic voice behind the American rock band 3 Doors Down, has shared a deeply personal and emotional update with fans: he has been diagnosed with stage four kidney cancer.
In a heartfelt Instagram video, the 46-year-old revealed he’s battling clear cell renal carcinoma, a severe form of kidney cancer that has already spread to his lungs. “And that’s stage four,” Arnold said somberly, “and that’s not real good.”
Known for anthems like Kryptonite, Here Without You, and It's Not My Time, 3 Doors Down rose to fame in the early 2000s, becoming a defining voice in post-grunge rock. The band has sold over 13 million albums in the United States alone.
In a message filled with resolve and hope, Arnold told his followers, “Now, I believe It’s Not My Time is really my song. This'll be a battle, so we need our prayer warriors!”
The Mississippi-born band burst onto the global music scene with Kryptonite in 2000, a track that resonated with millions and climbed to number three on the US charts. Their debut album, The Better Life, became one of the year’s top-sellers, paving the way for future hits and chart-topping albums like Seventeen Days and their 2008 self-titled LP.
While 3 Doors Down is also remembered for performing at former U.S. President Donald Trump’s inauguration in 2017, Arnold’s message today is one of faith and personal strength.
“You know what, we serve almighty God, and he can overcome anything,” he said in the video. “So I have no fear. I am really, sincerely not scared of it at all.”
However, the diagnosis has led the band to cancel their upcoming summer tour. Arnold expressed regret for the decision but asked fans to stand with him in spirit and prayer. “And I think it’s time for me to maybe go listen to It’s Not My Time a little bit, right?” he said, managing to keep his signature optimism.
Clear cell renal carcinoma is the most common form of kidney cancer. Stage four indicates the disease has metastasized, making it more challenging to treat. Still, Arnold remains defiant and grounded in his faith.
As fans across the globe rally in support, Brad Arnold’s strength in the face of such adversity serves as a reminder of the power of music, resilience—and the human spirit.
